Dental Bridge in Singapore

Replace Missing Teeth with a Fixed Tooth Bridge

A missing tooth can be replaced with a dental bridge, a set of artificial teeth fixed permanently in place and anchored to the natural teeth on either side of the gap, or to implants. A bridge restores chewing and speech, and keeps the remaining teeth from drifting into the space.

dePacific Dental Group fits conventional and resin-bonded bridges at four clinics in Singapore. MediSave does not cover a fixed bridge, though CHAS and Flexi-MediSave may apply to the supporting abutment crowns covering the natural teeth.

What Is a Dental Bridge and Who Needs One?

A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to neighbouring teeth or dental implants. It can be suitable for people with one to three adjacent missing teeth, particularly when the neighbouring teeth are healthy enough to support the bridge. These supporting teeth are known as abutments, and their condition, along with the health of the surrounding gums and bone, will determine whether a bridge is suitable.

Leaving a missing tooth untreated may affect your oral health over time:

  • Neighbouring teeth may shift into the gap, while the opposing tooth may move into the space
  • Your bite may change as the remaining teeth take on additional chewing forces
  • Food may become trapped around the gap, making the area more difficult to clean
  • A dental implant may be an alternative when the neighbouring teeth are healthy and you prefer not to have them prepared for a bridge. Dentures may be more suitable when multiple teeth are missing in different areas of the mouth. Your dentist can assess your teeth, gums and bone support to recommend the most appropriate option.

Factors Affecting Dental Bridge Cost in Singapore

The cost of a dental bridge can vary depending on several factors:

  • Type of bridge: Conventional, resin-bonded or implant-supported bridges have different costs.
  • Material used: Porcelain, ceramic, zirconia and other materials vary in cost and durability.
  • Number of teeth replaced: A bridge replacing more teeth generally requires more materials and laboratory work.
  • Laboratory fees: The complexity of fabrication and dental laboratory used can affect the overall cost.
  • Subsidies applied: CHAS and/or Flexi-MediSave subsidies may help offset part of the cost.
  • Dental Bridge Subsidies: CHAS, Flexi-Medisave & Medisave

dePacific offers CHAS and Medisave dental benefits for treatments in our dental clinics. MediSave, Flexi-MediSave and CHAS schemes apply to dental bridges in different ways:

  • MediSave is limited to procedures classified as surgical, so it does not apply to a conventional or resin-bonded bridge. Where a bridge is supported by implants, the implant surgery is the claimable part.
  • Flexi-MediSave lets patients aged 60 and above use up to $400 a year from Flexi-MediSave towards permanent crowns and root canal treatment at CHAS dental clinics.
  • CHAS covers permanent crowns, up to four per calendar year, and re-cementation, up to two per calendar year, for Blue, Orange, Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation cardholders.
  • Our dentist will examine your teeth and explain the applicable subsidies and costs with you before treatment begins, ensuring complete fee transparency.

How Long Does a Dental Bridge Last? Care, Repair & Replacement

A bridge lasts around 10 to 15 years on average, and how well it is cleaned affects how long it lasts. The artificial tooth sits above the gum rather than in it, so plaque collects in the space underneath and needs regular cleaning.

  • Clean under the artificial tooth daily with superfloss or an interdental brush
  • Brush twice daily, paying attention to the margins where each crown meets the tooth
  • Go easy on very hard foods, which can fracture the bridge material causing it to come loose or chip
  • Schedule a regular scaling and polishing every six months so the supporting teeth and gums stay sound
  • Loose, chipped or old bridge? What to do

A bridge that feels loose should be looked at immediately, because the tooth underneath is exposed once the cement seal is broken. dePacific does repairs and replacements for loose, chipped or old dental bridges. Our dentist will recommend the best course of action and explain the cost involved and applicable subsidies.

    Frequently Asked Questions About
    Dental Bridges at dePacific Dental

How much does a dental bridge cost in Singapore?

A conventional dental bridge at dePacific starts from $3,000 before GST and a resin-bonded bridge from $2,500 before GST. The final fee depends on the number of tooth replacements and type of bridge material

How long does a dental bridge last?

Dental bridges last 10 to 15 years on average. Cleaning under the bridge daily and keeping to six-monthly reviews both make a difference in extending its longevity.

Is a dental bridge claimable under MediSave or CHAS?

MediSave does not cover a fixed dental bridge, because it applies only to surgical procedures. The dentist will discuss with you during the consultation on your eligible CHAS subsidies that covers permanent crowns.

Is getting a dental bridge painful?

Getting a dental bridge is generally comfortable as local anaesthesia is used during tooth preparation. You may experience mild sensitivity or discomfort for a few days afterwards, which usually settles as the tooth adjusts to the dental bridge.

Will I get a temporary bridge while the permanent one is made?

Yes. A temporary bridge is fitted while your permanent bridge is being prepared, helping to protect the teeth and keep the gap covered.

How many missing teeth can a bridge replace?

A dental bridge can typically replace one or multiple missing teeth, depending on the condition and strength of the supporting teeth. Your dentist will assess your teeth, gums and bite to determine the most suitable option.

Can a dental bridge be used for a front tooth?

Yes. A single missing front tooth can be an option for a resin-bonded bridge, since the neighbouring teeth need little or no trimming.

Can I eat normally with a dental bridge?

Mostly. A fixed dental bridge handles ordinary chewing once it settles, though it is recommended to avoid hard foods because they can chip the porcelain.

Can an old or loose bridge be repaired or replaced?

Yes. An old or loose dental bridge may sometimes be recemented or repaired, depending on its condition and the health of the supporting teeth. If the bridge is damaged or the supporting teeth have deteriorated, replacement may be recommended.

Is a bridge or an implant better for me?

Both dental bridges and implants can effectively replace missing teeth, but the more suitable option depends on your oral health, bone support, condition of neighbouring teeth, treatment timeline and budget. Your dentist can assess these factors and recommend the option that best suits your individual needs.
